I’ve had a personal trainer for several years.  During this time my motivation to workout has varied from every day and not being able to get enough endorphins, through to only going to my training session once a week.

I’ve really enjoyed the switch to small group, semi-private training.  I’m more motivated and know that there’s a group of others looking to me to give them a motivation boost.

I can see that I have more energy and I’m getting fitter and stronger.  My motivation has improved heaps.

Phil and Nathan are great.  Even though there 7 other clients they each make time to come check in with me every session.  I know that they are both there for me if I need them.

The other services that they have wrapped around the training sessions are awesome.  I’m looking forward to my 3D scan so I can see the progress I’ve made.  The nutrition information and the goal setting have been invaluable.  It’s easier to get up at 5am three days a week now that I’ve really thought about ‘why’ I work out – this drives me to get out of bed and into the gym, even when I don’t feel like it.

I have tried many gyms over the years, and regimes to get fit, to lose weight etc – varied results on my own, and often I have had a go hard strategy which last for a few weeks, at most a few months, then I slide back into my old ways! Over the last 6 years I have worked with Phil Imray, who has helped me to understand the longer term game, to reduce my stress levels and be more effective with my training as well as supporting my choices and activities outside of the gym. This holistic approach has enabled me to improve my health and well being, to maintain a steadier approach to exercise that supports my life goals, and to remain injury free! Highly recommend working with the team at Foundation.

Despite having serious knee injuries and being told six years ago to never play football or run again, I continued to play, as I missed the comraderie that football provided, as well as the feeling of a hard, intense workout that kept my body toned and my mental fitness sharp.  Even though it caused a lot of physical pain to play, I hadn’t managed to find a way to stay toned and replicate those feelings in anything else I tried. Then I started attending the Foundation semi-private training group with Phil and Nathan. This is the first time in 37 years of playing, where I’ve felt like I have a replacement for football, and I don’t need to play anymore.

The group training is perfect for me, I love the banter, the feeling of giving each other a bit of stick, but at the same time knowing you’re all going through the same thing, and supporting each other through it. Phil and Nathan work hard with each individual to make sure that the techniques you are using take in to consideration your mobility (or lack of!), and are tailored to your needs, to achieve your own personal goals.

Foundation provide you with just that, the foundation to a happy, healthy lifestyle, that allows you to achieve whatever you put your mind to!

I have been a member of Phil & Nathan’s Foundation Gym since it’s opening in March 2019. Prior to that, I trained one on one with Phil for many years. My goals then were to have some form of routine regarding workouts having finished playing competitive sport. I was attending a session once a week then doing my own sessions elsewhere for the other days. This did have its challenges and my goals weren’t always being achieved. Foundation gym implemented a semi-private group workout which I’m part of. This is where a group (of 8 maximum) come together 3 times per week to workout with 2 trainers overseeing the sessions. Things are still individual and you still set your own goals and daily rituals but you have a much better understanding on what you want to achieve and why. Working out 3 times a week as a group is so motivating.

We work hard and have fun while doing it. It’s not just about working out but more about your overall health & well-being. They have helped changed my mind set and approach to what that means to me, my “why”, and this in turn has seen me focus on my nutrition, my sleep, my stress management and my overall approach to working out in general.

The results I’m seeing personally speak for themselves. I’m in a much better place and space and feel I have my health & well-being on a much better journey now. Phil & Nathan’s banter isn’t too bad either!

Having been diagnosed with arthritis I felt quite hopeless when I started my weekly sessions with Nathan. Joint movement was limited and I felt that I would never improve. I was also a bit nervous about pushing my body too much and hurting joints further but I quickly started to see improvements and began to believe that my joints could get stronger. And a year on they continue to do so.

Nathan is very patient and can quickly adjust a set to cater for my unpredictable joints. He knows the right amount to push me - slightly out of my comfort zone but not too much that I overdo it.

I'm a curious person and a lifelong learner, but hadn't ever applied that lens to my own wellbeing until I joined Foundation gym. Holistic wellbeing is now such an important part of my life - getting enough sleep, daily meditation, eating well, managing stress and tracking of wellbeing data are equally as important as actually going to the gym. As lifelong learners themselves the trainers at Foundation are unique in their desire and ability to share their approach, knowledge and expertise.

Foundation gym provides me with the challenge and positive experience I need, in an understanding and caring way. That's very special and without the Foundation trainers couldn't be replicated elsewhere.

Phil and Nathan are great personal trainers, not only in the physical, but in the mental as well. They really help drive the importance and belief that a healthy lifestyle is the foundation to achieving your goals, and they give you the tools to achieve that. Since starting with the semi-private group training sessions I've found a greater commitment  to my overall wellbeing that has driven a clear and positive impact on how I perform at work, and how much I get out of my free time.

Being a part of this group at The Foundation has quickly become an important and enjoyable part of my life, and I highly recommend trying it out!
